米饭 → Mǐ Fàn → Rice
Rice might not be the most filling, or the most nutritious of staple carbs, but for most Chinese it does get the job done easily. While I do not see any difference in rice consumption since I got here (mainly since I live in Asia), quite a few of my friends did notice the impact. It is interesting to learn how dentists can see changes in the teeth as a result of a higher consumption of glutinous rice. That being said, I am thankful that while living here, there are plenty of Western alternative cuisine to try, though I try to confirm that they are really serving proper food instead of a failed, disgusting take at Western fares.
