Takayama Ramen

Takayama Ramen, ironically also referred to as “chuka soba” (Chinese soba), served with a plate of gyoza. Cheap and warm. Per the name, there’s plenty of spots in Takayama to have these, but I had this near the Kaji bridge (with the place also named “Kajibashi” – Kaji Bridge).

Oroshi Soba and Sauce Katsudon

Cloudy and overcast day when I stopped by in Fukui on the way towards Toyama, and this local speciality definitely hit the spot.

Tempura and Soba @ Yotaro

A good meal after a busy day of errands. Ate at their Daimaru Umeda location, above Osaka Station, though turns out they do have a more robust fare for dinner in their main store.

Ekisoba @ Himeji Station

I think it’s safe to say that only in Japan, do people specifically put effort to go to a train station specifically to eat there, like Himeji Station’s Ekisoba.

135 Bowls of Soba

Wanko Soba is local delicacy up in Iwate prefecture, where it’s an all-you-can-eat fare of (initially) tasty noodles. Azumaya gives a nice incentive to eat 100. Safe to say I beat a friend’s record of 127 over lunch. I ate quickly but my pace slowed to a crawl at around the 95 mark and I felt horrible towards the end. The sides definitely helped with refreshing my palate.

Funnily enough, I was peckish again by around 10PM.

Not the most comfortable dining atmosphere, but the soba (and yakitori) is well worth it. They’re near Akihabara.
