Bingsu @ Sul-Bing Cafe

Long-standing bingsu place. Best to bring a friend to share with.

Snapchat Ice Cream

A freebie from Gelato Messina. A funky blend of passionfruit, cracker crumb and vanilla ice cream.

Pancakes!

When American breakfast foods are like dessert… you have them for dessert. Lots of different chains across Australia, but The Pancake Parlour is quite good.

Tutti Frutti Ice Cream @ Zangrandi

I haven’t visited Surabaya in many years, and even then never tried this ice cream shop, which had apparently been standing since 1930. Come for the colonial-era decor and old-style ice cream (not my personal favorite, but worth trying at least once), stay for the steamed peanuts you get from the sidewalk.

Bing Chillin’

Despite the possible double entendre, they’re known for their shaved ice, NOT ice cream.

Indoors 13 – Messina Cookie Pie

I remember going to Messina a few years ago and seeing one of their repeating videos showing this scrumptious looking chocolate chip cookie pie on screen. Combined with the smell of baking cookies in-store, I asked for one to go. Unfortunately, they told me that it was a limited-time offering and that the cookie smell was for a different ice cream flavor they’re making.

Imagine my excitement to see that they’re stocking the very same pies that I wanted years later, and giving a discount on ice cream to go with it! They’re here all winter, and if you’re in Australia, consider buying one plus a tub of ice cream for yourself! Vanilla is a sure-fire, but try some other flavors including their specials too.

Shinkansen Ice Cream

While to many it’s but a simple cup of ice cream, the lore stretches to the early days of the Shinkansen, where the less-modern freezers and high-quality cream made for rock hard ice cream when purchased onboard the trains. Since food and drink sales onboard the trains have almost ceased, it’s getting harder to sample these. I missed my chance at the SCMaglev and Railway Park Canteen, but thankfully the Shinkansen Green Cars still has onboard mobile ordering, allowing me to enjoy this nostalgic rock-hard dessert.

Indoors 11 – Cherry Pie

Watching Migi and Dali made me want to try cherry pies for the first time. Bought them from a specialized bakery and enjoyed each slice with some B&J’s.

Shirakawa-go

A view best enjoyed with a frosty Cremia.

APTX 4869 Gelato

Good news: It didn’t kill me. Bad news: It didn’t make me any younger.
