Big Chicken Plate @ Huya Chaoji

The menu said the green pepper plate was slightly spicy. I forgot it was “Asian” spicy – they really loaded up with the Sichuan peppercorns. It’s not SUPER hot, but it paralyzed my lips for the next 90 minutes.

Braised Whole Chicken

The attached head slightly detracted from the dining experience.

Dancing with my Dinner @ Haidilao

I’m back in China, and you can bet I sprang for a dinner at Haidilao at the soonest possible moment. The welcome surprise of a special song and dance came with our order of “8 kinds of Inner Mongolian Lamb”. Entertainment aside, the lamb was very good, and the smell was not gamey at all. Service was very accommodating, noting the mostly non-Chinese speaking travel companions with me.

Qantas’ Salt and Pepper Squid

A staple of the First Class lounge, I’ve repeatedly failed to get a taste since I’ve only ever visited the lounges prior to morning flights (and they don’t serve it during breakfast). Nonetheless, I’m very fortunate to encounter it in the Hong Kong lounge just as I was about to leave!

Christmas Macarons

The snacks are starting to get festive.

Brisket Platter @ LYMA

Their portion sizes leave more to be desired, but the brisket itself is terrific. Still worth trying one of their spots throughout Jakarta. If you’re a big eater, order more brisket for a satisfying lunch!

Fish Egg Croissant

For once, I actually didn’t try this.

Hanu Beef @ Jinmi Eonyang Bulgogi

Great place for a nosh after strolling through the nearby beach area. If going in the cold, ensure your jackets are well away from the smoke, otherwise it’ll stink up real bad. XD

Raspberry and blackberry summer pudding with crème fraîche

Taken onboard a Qantas flight.
