Gotta Be Aggressive

Had to deal with an airline screwing up a flight ticket yesterday. Had to toe the line between aggressive and polite in getting the mistake fixed. Reminded me of this funny Family Guy cutaway.

Padang Feast @ Pagi Sore

Padang restaurants in Indonesia are known for their “feast” style of serving, with small plates of side dishes stretching wide and/or piled high. Fortunately, you only pay for what you actually eat. While Pagi Sore is definitely the more upscale as far as Padang restaurant chains go, I still managed to grab a whole feast of ayam pop, rendang, empal, perkedel, cassava leaves, jackfruit, rice and sambal for just over $10 per person. Plenty of other chain and individual Padang restaurants across Indonesia offering the same large fare, usually for even less.

Marina Bay Sands

Some say it’s just a place for the high-net-worth people, but between the ArtScience exhibits, beautiful gardens and beautiful architecture, I’d say it’s worth a stop for tourists of all budgets. The Apple Store looks impressive here.

Butterman Pastries

They’re definitely hotter than your man, and have the taste to match. The queues are definitely crazy in their main store in Canggu, but fortunately they’ve opened up branches in other places and Indonesian cities – can’t say whether those are good though, I haven’t tried the other branches.

Chicken Nanban @ Bijin Nabe

Because it’s Indonesia, there’s a properly spicy variant (orange) of the tartar sauce. Taken at Bijin Nabe.

Jetting Off

No more looking out the window! XD

Bing Chillin’

Despite the possible double entendre, they’re known for their shaved ice, NOT ice cream.

Batmobile

Ok this one I definitely want to ride on the streets, and given the number plate, it’s definitely possible.

Israeli Lunch

Heard of this place from my barber, and it was one of the best mid-priced meals I’ve had. The warm hummus bowls topped with chicken and mushroom were the famous staples, but their take of chicken schnitzel combined with the slightly-sweet challah rolls and koftas pushed past my expectations, and they round things out perfectly with a cool Arak-spiked limonana.

At this point, I would tell you where you can find this gem and sample the fare yourself, but I sadly learnt recently that this restaurant has now closed. Given how unique this place is, I guess I’d have to tour the Middle East in the future to top this experience. My best wishes to chef Ehud Malka, formerly of The Left Handed Chef, at his future endeavors.
