饺子 → Jiǎo Zi → Dumplings
Hanging around Beijing, I can’t really escape these, particularly as they are one of the Northern-ish Chinese staples. Interestingly enough, I consistently mistake these for 包子 (pork buns), leading to some confusion when I approach one of the 服务员 (waiter) to order a dumpling.
At least, however, this pronunciation is still better then having to spell out 水饺 (Shuǐ Jiǎo) properly to order dumplings, in order not to confuse the waiter that I wanted some “sleep”. Much homophones.
