辛苦 → Xīn Kǔ → Hard
A teacher used this term to describe traditional Chinese, both the old incarnations and the version used outside the Mainland (e.g. Taiwan, HK) to date. Funny enough, I would use this term to describe the simplified version itself.
That being said, I remain hopeful that this is changing. Listening is getting slightly easier, and at the very least I can start carrying on conversations. I’m confident that the descriptive term would be closer to 简单 (jiǎn dān) soon.
