Hai Yorokonde

When I first saw this, I initially thought it was the OP of some old seinen anime, like The Laughing Salesman. The lyrics and frustration of the song certainly felt at home in a seinen. Regardless, the song is both very catchy to listen to, and the MV is certainly worth a watch.

In Spite of All The Danger

I started liking The Beatles in 2011, and eventually I bought their Anthology box set in 2012, which had a recording of this song made by the group’s predecessor, The Quarrymen. I really liked the song, though I had wished a better quality recording in the same style and arrangement would have existed. I only found out years later that a movie was made about John Lennon’s early life, and the soundtrack included a (what I considered) very faithful cover of this exact song!

Daddy ! Daddy ! Do !

I first caught wind of Masayuki Suzuki’s songs as the opening to the Kaguya-sama: Love is War anime series. This one has a weird title at first, but damn if it isn’t catchy.

5 O’Clock Serenade

In Japanese cities and towns, there’s a PA system covering a ward or town. A routine test is certainly ideal, so it appears they play a bit of music at 5 o’clock to both signal the end of the day, and to routinely test the PA system. Neat!

Peter Griffin Sings “The Rose”

I’d probably say this cover is better than the original. Seth MacFarlane is a man of many beautiful voices.

Confutatis

Watched Amadeus over the weekend. Putting aside the historical inaccuracies, the drama does not get boring and the music is especially riveting. Confutatis was even more so as after many times rewatching the conversation you realize that between the two minds that are in sync and highly skilled, the compressed instructions from Mozart was plausibly enough to write an entire piece by ear.

The Very Model of a Modern U.S. President

For veterans of the World Scholar’s Cup: You may remember this from the 2011 Regional Scholar’s Bowl.

For Americans reading this: Happy 4th of July! I fondly remember the days when political satire was tasteful and kind of rare.

Why I am cancelling Apple Music post-trial. I’d rather not have access to Radio.
